It is no secret that California is not my favorite state for many reasons. One of those reasons is Jury Duty. From the moment you turn 18 in California you are sent jury summons and for the most part you get them about once a year or so, I could be wrong there because my own personal experience with jury summons has been an interesting road. I didn't get my first summons until I lived in Virginia, since I didn't know how long I was going to be living there I didn't get residency when I got my summons my parents just sent it back saying I no longer lived there and everything was just fine.
When I moved back to California to finish school I was there for a good 8 or so months and I got nothing but a few weeks after moving to Utah I got another one, my parents did the same thing again and they sent it back saying that it wasn't acceptable and that I needed to show up on the date appointed, well I was in Utah, couldn't afford to take time off and travel just for Jury duty, I called in and they told me I had about 30 days to change my residency before they sent me another one, well I didn't have any of the stuff I needed and couldn't get it till I went home, that and they sent me another summons before my time was up. To make a long story short I have been avoiding Jury Duty for a few years now, not on purpose but anyways a few months ago I still hadn't changed my residency and my parents got another letter, I was being Charged with Contempt of Court for not appearing to Jury Duty and I had a week and a half to appear in court to defend myself or to call them and explain why I wasn't going to be there. I had a whole 2 days of being a criminal, it was actually kind of fun but the thing I kept worrying about was not being able to go to Disneyland. I was able to move back my court date in order to officially become a Utah resident... I am now sadly a Utah resident, on the bright side I can now go to Disneyland with out having to go through extravagant plans for California not to figure out that I have entered the state. As much fun as being able to say I was a criminal was I very happy to be done with it and to no longer be in contempt of court.
