Earlier this year my parents decided that they wanted to buy a retirement home out here in Utah in the Salt Lake area so my sister and I were put in charge of scouting out the neighborhoods, one of which we all fell in love with, it was the Daybreak community.
One of the things that made us love this little community happened on one of the many visits that we took up here to look at houses, and yes it has to do with ducklings. We were driving around and we saw a mama duck with 3-4 ducklings with her, and thought they were pretty cute as we drove by. After we looked at the house we were up there to look at we decided to walk around a little bit, we walked to the corner where the ducks had been and noticed that mama duck was walking around in circles frantically and there were no ducklings to be seen, we walked over and the poor little ducklings had fallen down the drainage pipe. A few of the neighbors where out side and they headed over and told us that they had already called the fire department to come and rescue them, so we all sat down to wait with mama duck for the firemen to come and rescue the.
After the firemen arrived the quickly set about finding a way to rescue the ducks, I am sure some of them wondered why they were there and why we cared so much but since half the street and more people were coming they put their heads together and found a way to save the ducklings.
Here is the first couple that came up, once they found a way the first 5 ducklings came up pretty fast we didn't even know there were getting them.
The first rescued being reunited with their mama... While the firemen were rescuing here babies she had wondered off a little ways because of all the people surrounding the drainage pipe but once she saw them she came running up to great them
And here is mama duck walking away with most or all of her ducklings... far from the drainage pipe.
There were 9 ducklings total and the firemen got a big round of applause when they were finished, you could tell as soon as the last one was up because mama duck took them and walk as far away as fast as possible.
This experience pretty much made my year.
